SAKEMI ISU - MONACA ZAGU
Sakemi Isu - Inspired by the Japanese traditional confectionery "Monaka," known for its round and plump appearance and delicated soft texture, MONACA ZAGU conveys the beauty and gentle ambiance of Japanese aesthetics. The zagu inherits this warm aesthetic to come into existence.
The zagu design showcases three classic Japanese floral motifs, each symbolizing the ever-changing seasons - peach blossoms (momo桃), plum blossoms(ume梅) and camellias(tsubaki山茶). Drawing inspiration from the profound emotions ancient and medieval people held towards flowers - admiring their beauty and feeling moved by their withering, often expressing these sentiments through poetry. These three beloved flowers in Japan throughout history transform into a resplendent image of "three flowers," presenting a delicate and colorful charm of the four seasons.
Crafted from a special textile boasting the unique texture of "Chirimen," a fabric rooted in traditional Japanese craftsmanship and originally woven with silk, frequently adorning kimonos and the armrest pillows of ancient warriors, symbolizing grace and nobility.
While traditional Chirimen isn't ideally suited for chair cushion fabric, to achieve the desired texture, Sakemi Isu collaborated with fabric suppliers to develop a dedicated seat fabric that encapsulates the essence and feel of Chirimen while ensuring durability and practicality.
MONACA ZAGU embodies the elegant fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern design, paying deep respect to the traditional Japanese culture
